FILAMENTS

Filament is the raw material of FDM process and they are thermoplastic based. Their melting points are below than thermoset plastic materials. So, many of them are recycle materials.  Many type of filaments are composite based and there are very huge species.Filaments are produced by plastic extrusion method.

 

STANDART FILAMENTS

1) PLA (Polylactic Acid)

PLA is the most common filament type in the industry. During the printing process, the material consumpt low enegry and never spread odor. PLA can recycle from corn and starch.

Extruder Temperature:180-220 °C

Table Heat:20-55°C

 

2) ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)

ABS is the another most common type filament. They are very strength and engineering plastic. Generally, they use in automotive industry. Paint spraying operation can be applicable on surface of printed object (after sanding). PLA is brittle than ABS.

Extruder Temperature:220-235 °C

Table Temperature:80-110°C

 

3) COLORFUL PLA

Colorful PLA has similar technical features as normal PLA filament. These kind of filaments just supply colorful print out products.

Extruder Temperature:185-210 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

 

4) COLORFUL ABS

Colorful ABS has similar technical features as normal ABS filament. These kind of filaments just supply colorful print out products.

Extruder Temperature:230-240 °C

Table Temperature:60-80°C

 

5) NYLON (Polyamide)

Nylon is a very strength, durable, half transparent and in white color material. They are very sensitive across to moisture so, nylon material must be stocked in humidity-free rooms or boxes. Before printing operation, filaments must be held on oven during 8 hours. On the other hand, printed products would be very brittle due to high moisture level of the material.

Extruder Temperature:235-270 °C

Table Temperature:60-80°C

 

6) PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)

PET is a  high strength filament raw material and stronger than PLA filaments. At the same time,  PET is a food safe material and it’s approved by FDA. During the print out operations, they don’t spread any harmful odor. In addition to that, they are not a recycled material.

Extruder Temperature:210-255 °C

Table Temperature:55°C

 

FLEXIBLE FILAMENT TYPES

1) TPE

TPE is very flexible material type such as rubber. They are more flexible than PLA filaments.

Extruder Heat:210-225 °C

Table Heat:20-55°C

 

2) SOFT PLA

It’s a kind of flexible PLA filament.

Extruder Temperature:220-235 °C

Tabla Temperature:20-55°C

 

3) TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane)

TPU is a very elastic material such as rubber so, there are no distortion on printed products. Material hardness value is 95 ShoreA

Extruder Temperature:240-260 °C

Table Temperature:40-60°C

 

COMPOSITE FILAMENTS

1) LAYBRICK

It’s a flexible type of filament. Generally it uses on architect project. Printed products can be sanded and polished or painted.

Extruder Temperature:180-200 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

 

2) LAYWOO-D3

It includes wood particules as 40% . After printing process, It provides to get wooden appearance on printed products. It can be sanded and painted. For contrast adjustment, nozzle heat must be increased(darker effet) or decreased (lighter effect). Heat resistance performance same as PLA.

Extruder Temperature:175-250 °C

Table Temperature:30°C

 

3) CONDUCTIVE ABS FILAMENT

It’s a kind of ABS based material and includes carbon particules. That’s why it has conductive property. Generally, It uses on electronic board manufacturing.

Extruder Temperature:225-260 °C

Table Temperature:90-110°C

 

4) LAY CERAMIC

It is very brittle but has a perfect strength and heat resistance performance. For printing process, nozzle must be heating efficiently, heat loss must be minimum level during printing process.

Extruder Temperature:260-275 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

 

5) CARBON FIBER FILAMENT

It’s a PLA based filament but includes carbon fibers. This component provides more stregnth resistance under force.

Extruder Temperature:195-220 °C

Table Temperature:50°C

 

6) STEEL PARTICULE  PLA

It’s a PLA based filament but includes steel particules. Printed parts has a perfect strength resistance and they are extremly weight. Generally it uses on jewelry print-outs. Printed parts don’t have conductive property.

Table Temperature:50°C

 

7) IRON PARTICULE PLA

Products become not magnetic. It has a slightly greater strength than regular PLA’s. Although including iron particles, they are not conductive.  If you want your print out to have a more rusty look, we suggest you to leave it in salty water for about 2-3 days.

Extruder Temperature: 185°C

Table Temperature: 50°C

 

8) BACKFILL TYPE FILAMENTS

It may include bronze, brass, copper. They are still PLA based filaments. It consists of %80 PLA + %20 backfill material.

Extruder Temperature: 190-210°C

Table Temperature: 20-55°C

 

9) LAY-FELT/GEL-LAY

It’s elastic soft state is air spaced. Print outs become like rubber type. Main base of the material consist of rubber-elastoremic polymer and PVA.

Extruder Temperature:225-235 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

  

10) LAY-FOMM 60

It’s elastic soft state is air spaced. Print outs become like rubber type. Main base of the material consist of rubber-elastoremic polymer and PVA. Hardness value is shore A60. It is ideal to create soft objects.

Extruder Temperature:220-230 °C

Table Temperature:40-60°C

 

11) LAY-FOMM 40

It’s elastic soft state is air spaced. Print outs become like rubber type. Main base of the material consist of rubber-elastoremic polymer and PVA.  Hardness value is shore A40 and It is ideal to create soft objects.

Extruder Temperature:220-230 °C

Table Temperature:40-60°C

 

SPECIAL FILAMENTS

1) POLYCARBONAT

It has high resistance against strokes and blastings. It is bullet proof and has a high resistance against decomposition due to high temperatures.

Extruder Temperature:270-310 °C

Table Temperature:90-105°C

 

2) BENDLAY

It is %91 percent transparent and quite elastic material and derived by modification of Butadin. It is a food safe material which means can contact beverages and food withouth any toxification or issues. It holds in less moisture than ABS.

Extruder Temperature:210-240 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

 

3) MOLDLAY

It is nearly impossible to distort this material therefore it’s a perfect choice for mould printing or modelling.

Extruder Temperature:170-180 °C

Table Temperature:20-55°C

 

BACK UP FILAMENTS

1) PVA

It is water soluble back up material and used at the printers which has double nozzle to support materials such as ABS and PLA. Filament is not composite by itself but makes print product so.

Extruder Temperature:170-190 °C

Table Temperature:40°C

 

2) POLYSTYRENE

It is quite similar to ABS except it includes Limonen as solvent. It is used at the printers which has double nozzle to support ABS. Filament is not composite by itself but makes print product so.

Extruder Temperature:220-230 °C

Table Temperature:50-60°C
